How to get console on a SunFire T1000/T2000/T5220/T5240

You need a physical machine running linux with USB ports

You need a light blue usb to RJ45(male) RS232 cable

You need the package for

1)setserial

2)minicom

ssh to the linux server

apt install setserial

apt install minicom

[root@localhost ~]# setserial -g /dev/ttyUSB[012345]

/dev/ttyUSB0, UART: unknown, Port: 0x0000, IRQ: 0

/dev/ttyUSB1, UART: unknown, Port: 0x0000, IRQ: 0

/dev/ttyUSB2, UART: unknown, Port: 0x0000, IRQ: 0

This web page will describe how to connect to the console of Oracle Sun T series and other M series serial port using Minicom. As you can see I have 3 Sun/Oracle systems connected via three light blue cables to three USB ports on my Linux server

[root@localhost ~]# minicom -s

Please follow the images and at the end select “Exit”, NOT “Exit from Minicom”

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE “Serial Device” is TO BE REPLACED BY the output from:

[root@localhost ~]# setserial -g /dev/ttyUSB[012345], IN THIS CASE:

/dev/ttyUSB0

NOTE: Please select “Exit”, NOT “Exit from Minicom”

On Ebay the light blue cable is listed on this seller as:
